Rosemarie Frankland
UNITED KINGDOM
Rosemarie Frankland was the first British winner of any major international pageant. Earlier in the year, she placed runner-up to Miss Universe 1961 as Miss Wales. When comedian Bob Hope placed the crown on her, he remarked that she was "the most beautiful girl I ever saw." A month later, she appeared in Alaska with Bob Hope to entertain the troops. Rosemarie also impressed Eric Morley, who commented favorably on "her punctuality, turning up in all weathers to fulfill her engagements, and never once did she acquire a reputation for being a 'primadonna.'"
