Miss World 1966

Reita Faria
INDIA

Encouraged by her fellow medical students, Reita Faria had entered the Miss Bombay contest as a joke, and was surprised when she not only won it, but also was sent to London as India's Miss World representative. Reita did not take the event too seriously, she was cool and unconcerned. During her interview with the television announcer, she spoke far better and more intelligently than the other semi-finalists. She looked radiant and the judges were almost unanimous in choosing her as the winner. Canada's Diane Coulter was favored by London betting agents to win, and had received one of the warmest rounds of applause from the audience, but failed to advance into the finals - she was a semi-finalist.
