Miss World 1999

Yukta Mookhey
INDIA

The last Miss World of the XX century was marked by a battle between the world's two greatest beauty powerhouse: India and Venezuela. If Venezuela's Martina Thorogood had one of the most beautiful faces ever seen in a beauty pageant, India's Yukta Mookhey was pure vibrance, elegance and intelligence. The deciding factor was the interview competition; Miss Venezuela displayed amazing class but her answers could have been better. Miss India nailed her interview, leaving judges as well as the two billion people watching the pageant mesmerized with her perspicacity and charm. The pageant was back to London after 9 years. The second runner-up, Sonia Raciti of South Africa, had been a Miss Universe finalist as well only 6 months earlier. Among the favorites who were not included in the select group of finalists were Misses Sweden, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
