Linda Petursdóttir
ICELAND
Linda Petursdottir, a language student, was the second Miss Iceland to win the Miss World title in four years. She crowned the first ever elected Miss USSR. Now she owns a health spa in Iceland and is the franchise holder for Miss World in her country. Due to declining viewership, Thames Television commercial network declared that Miss World 88 would be the last broadcast. In the next year, the contest was moved to Hong Kong. Korea, the host for the 1988 Olympic Games, had its representative finishing in second place (same placement of Miss Korea/Universe in 1988). The pageant took place in Spain and London.
