Ulla Weigerstorfer
AUSTRIA
Twenty year-old veterinary student Ulla Weigerstorfer won the Miss World title despite not being favored by London betting agents. She looked stunned when she was handed the crown and scepter, but did not burst into tears. The favorite, Venezuelean television interviewer Albani Lozada Jimenez, finished as first runner-up. The second runner-up, Iceland's Anna Jonsdottir, was a prolific pageant competitor, having finished as a semi-finalist in the previous year's Miss International pageant, and later was unplaced in the Miss Universe 1988 pageant. Miss Argentina was the first woman from that country to compete in London after the Maldives (or Falkland) War. The preliminaries were held in the Mediterranean island of Malta and the final night in the famous Royal Albert Hall, in London. Days after Miss Austria won the Miss World crown a newspaper from Vienna, ' 'Kurier', announced that the beauty queen had posed nude for a magazine. the news were confirmed by magazine 'Basta'. However, before the pictures were seen or published anywhere, they mysteriously disappeared.
