Miss World 1991

The pageant was held in Atlanta, Georgia, at practically the last minute due to scheduling difficulties, first in the Dominican Republic and then in Puerto Rico. South Africa was finally back in the pageant since 1977 - se was the 2nd runner-up. The delegate of its neighbor country, Namibia, which had just gained independence from South Africa, Michele McLean, went on to win the Miss Universe title in the next year. She was 5th in Atlanta. Semi-finalist Maree De Montalk of New Zealand's was also a semi-finalist in that Miss Universe contest. Other finalists to have participated in Miss Universe were Miss Jamaica, Sandra Foster, a semi-finalist in Miss Universe 89, and Mareva Georges of France, who also in 1991 was a semi-finalist in Las Vegas. Although Miss Brazil, Catia Kupssinskii, placed only as #17, she went on to become a successful model. She graced the covers of major fashion magazines such as VOGUE a Marie Claire.
